Orange Anti-Inflammatory Smoothie
Inflammation. At some point or another, we all seem to have it. There could be so many reasons why. A few reasons come from how we live our day to day life. Being exposed to toxins, in the air we breathe to the food we eat. Stress, possibly from work, home, or an underlying medical condition. When I am feeling a bit inflamed I always ensure to drink a lot of extra water, eat lots of fruits and veggies and consume a whole food diet. The number one thing I do is make smoothies made out of anti-inflammatory ingredients.
One of my favourite anti-inflammatory smoothies is bursting with flavour and colour. When I think of a detox smoothie I immediately think of green, nice bright colours coming from the fresh spinach or kale. However when I think of an anti-inflammatory smoothie I really never associated it with colour, until now!
ORANGE!
Ingredients
- 2 bananas (Not only do bananas make this smoothie nice and creamy, but they also contain a compound called rutin which has anti-inflammatory properties!)
- 1 cup of frozen unsweetened pineapple (Pineapple has the enzyme bromelain, which is known around the world as being anti-inflammatory.)
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder (Tumeric contains an active ingredient called Curcumin, an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compound.)
- 1 medium carrot or 6-8 baby carrots (Beta carotene can be helpful in fighting off inflammation, in fact, aside from carrots beta carotene is found in the vegetables and fruit that have that beautiful orange hue.)
- 2 cups of almond milk or water (Almond milk makes the smoothie a little thicker and adds a few Kcals. I prefer it with almond milk over water, but the choice is yours!)
- 1 medium orange, peeled
Directions
- Blend all ingredients and enjoy the benefits!
