A Perfectly Balanced Snack

Try This Healthy Snack!

We all look for healthy snacks that taste good and fill us up and don’t leave us feeling guilty for bad choices. I think I may have come up with the perfect snack, balanced nutritionally and satisfying!

I love apples and cinnamon together, which is perfect because apples are chalked full of antioxidants, flavonoids, fibre, vitamin C and B, as well as high in fibre and low in calories, just to name a few. Then I add Ceylon cinnamon, known for its ability to lower blood sugar which makes this a good choice for diabetics. It is a digestive aid, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and more.

I usually add some protein in my snacks because of my heavy wieght training. The amino acids assist in muscle repair and growth. For this snack I add either fat free or 1% cottage cheese and to round out the perfect snack I add organic almonds. This provides me with my healthy fats, more fibre and protein, antioxidants, and good amounts of Vitamin E, copper, magnesium and manganese.

You can see where I am going with this, 4 super healthy ingredients mixed together to make one very well balanced snack that tastes delicious and fresh plus leaves you feeling full and satisfied. I have been eating this on my afternoon coffee break or for my lunch at work for years, I can’t tell you the number of coworkers who now eat it and love it. I hope you will give it a try and decide for yourself.  If you are not a big fan of cottage cheese you will be happy to know that it easily takes on the cinnamon flavour.

Recipe

  • 1 organic apple
  • 1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese
  • 1tsp. or more of ceylon cinnamon
  • approx: 13 organic almonds

Mix together and enjoy healthy snacking!
