Vacation Survival Tips

Family time is so important.

December 12, 2016

Vacation is needed in this day and age when our lives are so busy.  Making memories is essential for many people.

Family time is so important. Many of us live such busy lives that we don’t take advantage of the small things in our every day like spending time with our loved ones; this is actually a big thing!  Time is so precious which I have been reminded of a lot recently.  Losing a childhood friend, and looking at colleges for my first born has really put things into perspective for me.  And I plan on living life to the fullest!

So my husband and I rearranged a few things and decided to book a family vacation!   This is such a busy time of year with the holidays fast approaching that getting organized to go away on top of everything else thats going on is a challenge.  Its only a few days until we will be enjoying the warmth and relaxation of a beautiful tropical resort.  As much as I am excited I can feel some anxiety and stress creeping up. Nonetheless, the count down is on.

I need to keep in mind that no matter how much we organize and plan, travel doesn’t always go the way we think.  So I need to be flexible, and go with the flow.

As the days leading up to our vacation approach here are a couple of tips I am using to help combat the stress and anxiety so that we don’t get run down and not be able to enjoy our vacation.

Taking some extra Vitamin C, and a multivitamin that has vitamins A,C,D,E; the B-complex vitamins and trace minerals such as zinc, calcium, magnesium and selenium will help de stress and lessen anxiety.  Diffusing the essential oil Roman Chamomile, or Lavender will also help relax and calm the nerves.

Eating balanced, nutritious meals to keep my body running optimally.

Getting enough sleep prior to your vacation is still very important.  If you have too much that has to be done before you leave; delegate tasks to other family members instead of skipping quality sleep and staying up late to do it yourself.  If you don’t get adequate sleep it will impair all aspects of what we do and how we handle it.  It will also run you down and you will be more susceptible to getting sick.

Make a list and check it twice!( or three or four times).  When you are packing check off your list so you don’t forget anything.  Of course if I do forget something I will either go without or buy from the gift store at the resort!  So its not the end of the world!  I need to keep that in perspective.

Pack some snacks.  Lets face it, waiting at the airport can be a daunting task.  Packing some healthy snacks will help with nerves, hunger and any digestion upset.

Breathe!!  Getting frantic and having high expectations will set the wrong tone, and cause a negative experience!

Once we are at our destination, the sunshine and family time will make all the preparation worth it!
