From Introvert to Influencer: Mastering Networking in the Wellness Space

May 23, 2025

If the thought of putting yourself out there publicly for your holistic nutrition practice makes you want to retreat into your cozy comfort zone with a cup of tea and a good book, you’re not alone! Many health professionals identify as introverts who were drawn to the holistic space because of its depth, compassion, and one-on-one connection. But here’s the truth: you don’t need to be the loudest person in the room to make a big impact!

In fact, introverts make up some of the most thoughtful, genuine, and influential leaders in our industry. The key to being found when being outgoing isn’t your thing, is to redefine what networking looks like for you, and to embrace it as an extension of your purpose rather than a performance to “find clients.”

Here are some basic tips to help you go from introvert to influencer, on your own authentic terms:

Step 1. Connection & Performance

Traditional networking can sometimes feel transactional to an introvert, or as though it is too “salesy” – but in the wellness space, networking is more focused around building relationships that are rooted in shared values, like preventative health, healing, integrity, and personal growth.

We suggest first shifting your mindset around this.
Instead of thinking, “I need to sell myself,” reframe it as:

“I’m here to connect, serve, and support like-minded individuals.”

When you lead with this kind of curiosity and intention rather than with pressure to succeed or sell, the process becomes more organic and far less intimidating, because you’re deeply connected with your WHY.

Step 2. Leverage Your Strengths

Introverts often excel in listening deeply, noticing nuances beyond surface-level thinking, asking meaningful questions, and creating safe, calm spaces for others to be seen.

In the wellness world, these traits are superpowers because clients are entrusting us with the most vulnerable parts of themselves and their human experience in order to find healing and growth in those areas where it may be needed. Whether you’re attending a local event, being part of a networking group of colleagues, or meeting people in an online forum, bring that energy with you. Your quiet confidence will undoubtedly stand out in an industry that thrives on authenticity.

Step 3. Start with Online Networking (Yes, It Totally Counts!)

Not every connection needs to begin in person! Online platforms like Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook groups (Including our own alumni community on Facebook) are great places to warm up, where you may find yourself feeling less pressure, because you can take the time to write thoughtful comments or replies from behind a screen, versus face-to-face. Start here until you feel a bit more confident in your approach, then start connecting with in-person networking and peer groups, if and when the time feels right to do so. Try taking some time each week to:

  • Comment on posts that resonate with you and your unique area of focus.
  • Send thoughtful DMs to peers or professionals you admire.
  • Share insights or resources that reflect your niche or philosophy.
  • Join relevant Facebook or LinkedIn groups and contribute to ongoing conversations.
  • Participate in live Q&As, wellness summits, or online workshops, turning on your camera or typing in the chat when you feel ready.
  • Re-share relevant posts or articles that speak to your ideal client, with your own take or reflections added. This invites conversation from those who may be interested in learning more about what you do, or about what working with you might look like.
  • Respond to Instagram Stories with genuine comments or reactions (an easy, low-effort way to start a dialogue).
  • Post a behind-the-scenes look at your wellness journey or studies. Remember: Vulnerability builds trust, and showing the less glamorous, “BTS” shots is like grabbing your ideal client by the hand and saying, “Here – Come check this out with me!” It’s a beautiful way to go from feeling like an out-of-reach professional to someone they know, like, and can trust to support them, human-to-human, on their health journey.

Step 4. Create Before You Connect

Are you looking to attract people who align with your mission? If so, begin by creating valuable content. Whether you want to focus on hosting a weekly blog, a podcast, an email series, or daily social media posts, your voice online is a form of networking, and it works while you sleep

Our best advice? Don’t wait until you feel “ready.” Begin showing up consistently and speaking directly to your ideal audience now, on the platforms and through the mediums that serve them best. Over time, your content becomes an evergreen magnet for meaningful connections and aligned collaborations. Every piece you create adds to the bigger picture of a body of work that continues working for you, even when you’re offline, at the park with your kids, or fully present with a client.

Step 5. Attend Events With Intention (Not Just to “Network”)

You don’t need to attend every wellness event to make valuable connections. Instead, be intentional: choose a few events each year that align with your core values and professional goals, and go in with a purpose. For health practitioners, here are a some possible reasons or intentions you might have for attending a networking event or opportunity:

  • To learn from leaders in your field or a closely aligned field, and to stay current with new tools, trends, or modalities.
  • To meet referral partners that you can see a benefit to having in your arsenal for times when you have a client who may have needs that are beyond your scope of practice, like naturopaths, bodyworkers, or chiropractors. Remember that networking is not just about “getting,” it’s about serving.
  • To find potential clients or practice members who already value holistic nutrition and preventative health.
  • To connect with peers who understand your journey, and who can offer support, mentorship, or collaboration.
  • To practice sharing your work confidently and develop your networking skills in a low-pressure, in-person setting.
  • To leave inspired by real-world stories, breakthroughs, and conversations that reignite your passion for this work!

Pro tip: Bring a like-minded friend or colleague, a few business cards, and a clear, heart-centered “elevator pitch” that reflects who you truly are, and what you stand for. When you approach networking from this place of alignment, it becomes less about performance and more about true, authentic connection.

Step 6. Practice “Micro-Visibility”

You really don’t need 10,000 followers on Instagram to be an influencer in your space, or to make money in your business.

What you actually need is trust.

Try this:

  • Share a client win (with permission, of course!)
  • Post a quick video tip, or bust a wellness myth in an Instagram reel.
  • Highlight a book, podcast, or research article that changed your perspective, and that might change the perspective of your ideal client.
  • Share a behind-the-scenes look at your day (What are you prepping for lunch? What’s your current go-to supplement stack? What do you do in your day-to-day life, or your morning/evening routine that aligns with your core values, and the values you share with your clients? How do you “walk the walk?”)
  • Answer a frequently asked question in an Instagram story or carousel post.
  • Share a testimonial or kind message you recently received from a client.
  • Share your “why.” What brought you to holistic nutrition in the first place? Why does this work matter to you?
  • Post a short reflection on something you’re currently learning, or something new you’re working on in your holistic nutrition practice.
  • Use polls or question boxes to engage with your audience.
  • Feature one of your favourite tools, like your go-to herbal tea, a certain journal prompt you use daily to set you up for success, or an app you can’t seem to get enough of.

These small shares build your credibility over time, and they make you feel more approachable from a human sense – even if you tend to be more naturally reserved.

Step 7. Find Your People

If there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s this:
The most impactful networking happens when you’re part of a supportive community
Whether it’s your NutraPhoria peers inside of our private community, a niche mastermind, or a local wellness collective, these are the people who will:

  • Refer clients to you.
  • Collaborate on workshops, group programs, or retreats.
  • Cheer you on when imposter syndrome hits.
  • Invite you to speak in their upcoming workshop, invite you to be a guest on their podcast, or to collaborate on their upcoming program or event.
  • Help you talk through tough client cases (ethically and confidentially).
  • Share resources, tools, or new research that supports your growth.
  • Cross-promote your work on social media or newsletters.
  • Keep you accountable to your business or study goals.
  • Celebrate your wins, both big and small.
  • Offer honest, constructive feedback from a place of support.
  • Remind you that you’re not doing this work alone!

Lean into these relationships every day, because they’re the ones that often lead to the most fulfilling growth, on both a personal and professional level.

Final Thoughts: You’re FAR More Influential Than You Give Yourself Credit For!

Being an introvert is not a barrier to influence or success in business, it’s a secret advantage. By showing up consistently, sharing your unique, authentic voice, and focusing on connection over self-promotion and “getting clients” you can very quickly build a thriving network that reflects exactly who you are as a mentor, and that fuels your wellness practice.

Remember: You don’t have to be everywhere. You just have to be real, intentional, and aligned, and the right people will undoubtedly find you.
