Meet Melissa Abbattista, NutraPhoria Alumni, RHNC & RHC of The Wholistic Table

This month, we’re thrilled to feature Melissa Abbattista, a NutraPhoria graduate, Registered Holistic Nutrition Coach (RHNC), and founder of The Wholistic Table. Inspired by her own journey overcoming fibromyalgia, IBS, and the pressures of corporate life, Melissa has built a practice that takes a “wholistic” approach, addressing the body, mind, and soul. With deep empathy and a passion for empowering others, she helps clients navigate their health challenges and achieve life-changing transformations. In this interview, Melissa shares her story, unique philosophy, and the wisdom fueling her mission to inspire balance, harmony, and wellness in others.

1.  Can you share a bit about your background, specialization, and what initially drew you to holistic nutrition?

My personal experience with Fibromyalgia and IBS, coupled with the challenges of 15 years in the high demanding corporate life, has allowed me to connect deeply with clients and empower others to take charge of their health. What began as a battle with illness had blossomed into a fulfilling career dedicated to helping others.

I vividly recall a conversation with one of my mentors, where I asked, “Why have I faced so much trauma and so many health scares in my life at a young age?” Her reply was “Melissa, everything you’ve experienced has happened so you can help others.” That moment left a lasting impact on me. I felt truly grateful for the challenges I’ve faced, as they have guided me toward a deeper understanding of myself and my life’s purpose.

This journey through chronic pain and health issues ignited a passion for understanding the intricate connections between diet, lifestyle, and overall well-being. Driven by the desire to heal myself and others, I practiced the principles of Holistic Nutrition, TCM, Mental Health, learning how to nourish the body mindfully and effectively. Now as a graduate of NutraPhoria, I empower others to reclaim their health through personalized nutrition plans and supportive guidance, helping them navigate their own challenges with compassion and knowledge.

2. What unique approach or philosophy do you bring to your work that sets your practice apart?

Through my journey, I’ve gained invaluable knowledge from incredible practitioners while exploring non-traditional healing methods. When I work with a client, I recognize that nutrition is just one piece of the puzzle. I take a comprehensive view, examining other vital pillars such as sleep, stress, and trauma to identify where they might need the most support. I consider the individual as a whole rather than isolated parts. This perspective ensures that my protocols are integrated and multifaceted, addressing the unique needs of each client. My goal is to empower clients to thrive by providing the guidance and support to their wellness journey. I value NutraPhoria’s empathise and passion on treating clients with this approach.

3. Can you share a success story or transformation from a client you’ve worked with?

One of my clients had been on birth control and antidepressants for six long years. She felt puffy, bloated, and emotionally numb and deep down, she yearned for change! The thought of coming off her medications, however, filled her with fear—she worried about the storm of mood swings and overwhelming feelings.

In just three months, I helped her break free from both medications. Other practitioners had told her that she wasn’t strong enough to do so but I was determined to give her the support she needed. Using my training and personal experiences, I knew that achieving such a transformation required a “Wholistic” approach. It’s not just about nutrition; it’s about nurturing the mind, body, and soul.

Together, we explored coping techniques that empowered her to embrace the new sensations she was experiencing. We also worked through her past and current traumas. She learned to listen to her body and process her emotions in healthier ways. This shifted her mindset to a more positive outlook on life.

Watching her grow stronger and more confident has been one of my proudest moments. She transformed not only her health but her entire life. Her accomplishments are a testament to what’s possible when we approach wellness as a multifaceted journey. I’m truly inspired by her resilience.

4. How do you stay inspired and continue to expand your knowledge in the ever-evolving field of holistic nutrition?

I truly believe that the industry itself is ever-evolving and inspiring! The learning is endless and so are the solutions for your clients! Associating yourself with a mentor(s) can bring a different perspective to your current knowledge and you may find a practitioner that you admire which makes the learning that much more interesting. I don’t claim to know it all, I don’t think anyone does so take time to ask questions, listen to and learn even about things that are out of your comfort zone – because with knowledge comes wisdom.

5. What’s one habit or daily ritual you’ve integrated into your own life since becoming a holistic nutrition professional?

A daily ritual that is important to my lifestyle is Walking. Walking is my time to spend with nature, to reflect and appreciate my surroundings. As a busy mom and business owner it is important to give back to myself and walking allows me to stay present, stimulate my creativity and recharge. Walking can easily fit into anyone’s busy schedule – it doesn’t require special equipment or a set time, making it accessible for even the most hectic days. Walking can be life changing for many and I encourage it for all my clients!

6. If you could share one piece of advice to your fellow holistic nutrition students and graduates of the program, what would it be?

I believe that everything happens in our lives for a reason. This path you choose, including the clients you take on can be a reflection of your own journey – you may find pieces of yourself mirrored in their stories and struggles. This realization can be extremely powerful!

As you engage with your clients, take time to listen and reflect on what resonates with you in their experiences. This insight can lead to transformative moments—not just for them, but for you as well. It can inspire you to grow, to adapt your approach, and to embrace the lessons that these interactions offer. Each encounter is a step toward greater understanding and purpose in both your lives.

7. Looking ahead, what goals or projects do you have for the future of your wellness practice?

Ultimately, my dream is to write a book! I would love to share my knowledge to create a resource that resonates with many. I imagine creating a comprehensive program that emphasizes the interconnectedness of mind, body, and soul, offering practical strategies for nutrition, mindfulness, and self-care. Sharing my past health challenges as well as being a corporate leader can serve as a guiding light, helping others navigate their own paths to wellness because our voice and experiences are invaluable. Providing a positive impact on others lives, guiding them to find balance and harmony allows me to embrace this journey, knowing that every step I take is part of a greater purpose.
