3 Surprising Superfoods

When it comes to healing the gut and restoring the balance within your body, we tend to look for a miracle diet or supplements that will spontaneously fix us.  There is definitely a place for following strict diets for a limited period to address issues such as candida or parasites.  As well, supplementation can be extremely vital in helping areas you are deficient or to help the body come together with the enzymatic, metabolic, structural and detoxifying properties that educated protocols can provide.

However, the importance of a whole food diet full of variety, balance and loving preparation cannot be emphasized enough and by learning to listen to the body it can find its way back to perfect health.

I want to share the benefits of these three simple anti-inflammatory superstars to show how healing may truly be just a bite away!

Apples

The crunch and juiciness of an apple on a cold winters’ day is just a hint of the health benefits an apple brings.  This fruit is hydrating on a deep, cellular level being full of trace minerals, electrolytes and mineral salts.  They have some B vitamins and are a source of vitamin A and C, as well as containing lots of potassium.  Apples also have traces of the phytonutrients rutin, quercitin and flavonoids that are responsible for heavy metal detoxification.

The detoxifying properties of apples goes above and beyond what one may think.

They serve as a colon cleanser by gathering and expelling putrified debris hiding in intestinal pockets, as the pectin collects and rids the body of harmful microbes. By reducing viral and bacterial loads that create inflammation, apples have a calming effect on the body’s entire system.

Dates

Just because you may be avoiding sugar for the many health benefits that this brings, that does not mean you still cannot enjoy this amazing fruit in your diet.  They are high in fructose, but the incredible nourishment dates provide far outweighs the strict avoidance of sweets for me.  Dates are concentrated in iron and are rich in potassium, calcium, magnesium, copper, as well as vitamin A and B complex.  This anti-inflammatory fruit, harvested from the date palm tree, improves energy and brain function, builds bone and muscle stength, lowers cholesterol and contains easily digestable fiber to promote regularity.

Try them in homemade energy bars, blended into a power smoothie or a nourishing salad dressing, or simply as a snack with celery and walnuts!

Celery

The biggest surprise to me, is the healing power of celery on the body, especially the effect on the gut.  Celery cleanses and repairs the intestinal lining with its’ unique bioactive sodium composition and trace minerals. This incredible vegetable works as an anti-inflammatory by starving harmful bacteria, yeast, mold, viruses and fungus by flushing toxins out of your system; while, allowing good bacteria to thrive.  Also, celery alkalizes the gut by raising the bodys’ pH and ridding toxic acids from everywhere.

Try a 16 oz freshly pressed or blended celery juice as you rise and shine to strengthen the digestion of everything you eat for the day!
