About the Holistic Nutrition Curriculum
The NutraPhoria Integrative Health Institute is a Canadian school offering its holistic nutrition curriculum online to students in Canada, the United States and beyond. Study is self-paced across seven course terms, with enrolment open year-round. Terms 1 to 4 lead to the 1,000-hour Holistic Nutrition & Health Coach diploma. Students can finish there or continue through Terms 5 to 7 for the 2,000-hour Holistic Nutritionist diploma.
The Tier 1 diploma is approved by the Health Coach Alliance (HCA), providing an education path toward the RHNC designation. The Holistic Nutritionist diploma is approved by the Global Association for Integrative Nutrition (GAIN) and the National Association of Nutrition Professionals (NANP), providing paths toward the RHNP designation and the BCHN® board certification process. Each organization sets its own credential requirements. The institute is also certified by Employment and Social Development Canada, and Canadian students may be able to use RESP funds, depending on their plan and enrolment.
Each term builds on the last, and practitioner training runs through all seven. Case work guided by the ROOTS™ Method starts in Term 1, so students learn early to ask better questions, reason across body systems, work within scope and recognize when a referral is needed. By Term 7, they’re working through layered, multi-concern cases with growing independence.
What Sets This Curriculum Apart
A First Diploma That Leaves Your Options Open
You can begin without deciding how far you’ll eventually study. Tier 1 gives you a complete health coach education. If you later choose advanced holistic nutrition, your Tier 1 terms count toward the diploma and you keep building on what you’ve already learned.
Client Work That Grows With Your Knowledge
Case work begins in Term 1 and returns as students learn more about nutrition, body systems and coaching. A client’s story rarely arrives neatly organized. Students practise finding what’s missing, asking another question and explaining their next step as the cases become more complex.
A Method You’ll Use in Practice
The ROOTS™ Method gives students a way to work through a client’s history without losing sight of the whole person. Tools such as the Life Load Timeline and Core Body Systems Snapshot help them follow changes over time, decide where to begin and review how a client responds. Graduates take the method and tools with them into practice.
Tuition Kept Within Reach
The NutraPhoria Integrative Health Institute keeps tuition affordable so more people can train as practitioners without taking on heavy debt. Tier 1 is $2,546 CAD and the complete two-tier diploma is $3,650 CAD, both tax-exempt, with flexible payment options and business training included.

Frequently Asked Questions
Here are the questions our admissions team hears most often. If yours isn’t here, reach out to a team member at admissions@nutraphoria.com; we would love to hear from you.
The curriculum has seven online course terms arranged in two tiers. Tier 1 (Terms 1 to 4, 1,000 hours) leads to the Holistic Nutrition & Health Coach credential. Tier 2 (Terms 5 to 7, a further 1,000 hours) completes the Holistic Nutritionist Diploma, for 2,000 hours in total. Each term builds on the one before it, so the science and the client work deepen as you move through the program.
Absolutely, Tier 1 is a complete credential. Graduates finish with nutrition science and health coaching training and can begin working with clients within their scope of practice. You can stop there, or continue into Tier 2 whenever you are ready to complete the Holistic Nutritionist Diploma.
No, there are no academic prerequisites. Term 1 starts with the foundations of food, nutrients and the whole person, and the science builds step by step from there. Detailed anatomy and physiology come in Term 5, once you already understand how nutrition works in the body.
Every term is self-paced. Most students complete each tier in 6 to 12 months, and each tier allows up to 12 months. Enrolment is open year-round, so you can start any time and study around work and family.
Practitioner training starts in the very first course term and continues through the whole program. Students work through client cases, learn to ask better questions, compare options and explain their reasoning using our ROOTS™ Method. In Term 4, students complete five cases with their own clients and five simulated coaching cases before finishing Tier 1.
Each lesson ends with a lesson test, and each course term ends with a final exam, with a minimum passing grade of 80% and opportunities to do a rewrite if needed. Tier 1 finishes with a series of client case studies that show how you apply what you have learned.
Tier 1 graduates qualify for the Registered Health & Nutrition Coach (RHNC) designation through the Health Coach Alliance (HCA). Tier 2 graduates earn the Registered Holistic Nutrition Practitioner (RHNP) designation through the Global Association for Integrative Nutrition (GAIN) and are eligible to apply for Board Certification in Holistic Nutrition (BCHN) through the Holistic Nutrition Credentialing Board, recognized by NANP.
Yes. The Nutrition Business Blueprint is included with both programs at no extra cost. It helps you define and price your services, attract clients and set up the forms and tools you need to open a holistic nutrition or health coaching practice.
While holistic nutrition and health coaches both provide nutrition guidance, lifestyle support, and coaching for change, the biggest differentiator is the scope of practice. A holistic nutritionist completes both tiers with advanced study of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and mind-body health, preparing them for more complex client work.
Yes, the NutraPhoria Integrative Health Institute is certified through Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), so eligible students may be able to use RESP funds, the Lifelong Learning Plan (RRSP) and some government or employer sponsored funding.
