6 Ways To Help Relieve Your Anxiety Naturally

May 8, 2019

When it comes to your anxiety, you may have ups and downs or highs and lows. There are times that anxiety is high and your anxiety is getting the best of you (I am guilty of this). Following these few steps can help you whether you are in public or at home when anxiety hits. These techniques can be used everyday or when anxiety is at its peak. These practices can help you lead a more relaxed life and tackle your anxiety before it gets too high.

6 Ways To Help Relieve Your Anxiety Naturally

Deep Breathing

When you feel like your anxiety is getting high in any situation, taking a few deep breaths which help to relax your muscles and your mind. Deep breathing helps reduce stress and helps you physically and mentally.

Progressive Muscle Relaxation

This sounds strange, but pulling all your tension into individual parts of your body and then releasing that tension, allows you to get the tension out of your body. Visualizing that I find that doing this at night will help you relax before sleeping.

Positive Mindset

When your anxiety is at a high, and your mind can wander to a dark place, trying to think positive towards the situation that is at hand. It is very hard to do, but trying to have a positive mindset helps you to think in a different direction and alleviates the anxiety, little by little.

Essential Oils

There are some essential oils that are known to be calming such as Lavender, Clary Sage, Patchouli and Lemon. It creates a feeling of calm, peace, and happiness. Lemon is a light uplifting smell, although I am not a particular fan of some lemon smells cause they remind me of Pledge. I use lavender, clary sage and patchouli every day. Patchouli is grounding and relaxes the emotional centre of your brain. Lavender grounds you and allows your mind to rest, that is why a lot of people use it in diffusers to help them sleep. Clary Sage reduces tension and stress, which allows you to unwind.

Yoga

Yoga is a stress reliever. I found that Child’s Pose and Savasana is probably one of the most calming poses. Savasana looks easy because you are lying flat on the ground, but being able to truly calm down and relax is difficult to do. Yoga stretches your muscles and puts you into a more relaxed state. There are many types of yoga too such as yoga that is focused on breathing, light yoga, hot yoga. All of these help to relieve anxiety. You could go to a class at a boutique studio, a gym or by downloading an app.

Meditation

Meditation is either liked or disliked. It is always worth a try to see if you do or do not like it. When I first tried meditation, I found it difficult to clear my mind, as most people told me that it would do. I used an app for guided meditation and it changed my thoughts on meditation. It clears the mind, relaxes the body and gets you into a feeling of peace. When I went to my first meditation circle, they used a sound bowl that was loud but worked to clear my mind because I couldn’t think about anything over the sounds.
