Cacao Date Balls Recipe

December 19, 2018

Whenever I feel the need for something sweet and chocolatey, my favourite go-to is some homemade cacao balls.

You can adjust this recipe according to your preference or what you have at home. I tend to always use dates as the base and sweetener, but you can also use maple syrup or coconut nectar in which case you might want to increase the dry ingredients for your desired consistency. If you want some more healthy fats or filling snacks, you could leave the oats out completely and just add in more of your favourite nuts or seeds.

Here is the recipe I used for this batch, however I tend to change it up a bit every time, using what’s in my pantry or what I feel like.

Cacao Date Balls Recipe

Ingredients

  • 20 soft medjool dates
  • 3 tablespoons cacao
  • 1 deciliter rolled oats
  • 3 tablespoons hulled hemp seeds
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon pumpkin seeds
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1-3 tablespoons of water (optional)
  • Coconut flakes or extra cacao for covering the balls in (optional)

Directions

  • Put all ingredients in a food processor and blend until well combined and gooey
  • You can always add a bit of water 1 tablespoon at a time if you find the consistency becomes too dry
  • If you don’t have a food processor you can also do this with a fork (and a bit of muscle strength and patience)
  • Then form small balls out of the mixture and cover them in coconut flakes or some cacao
  • Put in the fridge for a couple of hours, or if you’re lacking patience (like me), put in the freezer for about 15 minutes and then enjoy!
