What is Spirulina?

Spirulina is one of the oldest life forms on Earth. It is a blue-green microalgae. Spirulina is the world’s first superfood, and one of the most nutrient-rich foods on Earth.

Spirulina is nutritionally complete of all foods and has many uses as a supplement for maintaining good health and preventing diseases.

Spirulina contains many important nutrients such as:

  • Antioxidants
  • Protein
  • Complex carbohydrates
  • Iron
  • Vitamins A And K as well as B complex
  • Rich in chlorophyll
  • Fatty and nucleic acids and lipids
  • Rich in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA)

Spirulina provides beta carotene and yellow xanthophylls. Spirulina is the richest source of beta carotene. It is 10 times more concentrated than carrots! Wow!

As mentioned above, Spirulina is a rich source of iron. Iron is essential for a strong internal system and iron seems to be the most common mineral deficiency in humans. Not only is it rich in iron but also in magnesium and other trace minerals. Spirulina is a much easier source of iron to absorb compared to iron supplements. Just 10 grams of Spirulina supplies us up to 70% of the minimum requirements for iron! How great is that!

Spirulina is packed with protein! About 60% of Spirulina is protein which is essential for growth and cell regeneration. Spirulina is a great replacement for fatty meat and dairy.

Because of its high protein content, it helps build muscle mass in athletes. It even increases their stamina levels. Spirulina can curb hunger which is excellent for those on a weight loss journey such as myself!!

Spirulina suppresses bad bacteria like e-coli and Candida yeast and stimulates beneficial flora like lactobacillus and bifidobacteria in the digestive tract to promote healthy digestion and proper bowel function. Having a healthy flora is the foundation of good health. It increases the body’s ability to absorb nutrients from the foods we eat and help protect us against infection.

Spirulina is sure a superfood because along with all these incredible qualities, Spirulina is also an excellent detoxifier! Because it has a unique combination of phytonutrients such as chlorophyll, phycocyanin and polysaccharides, this helps to purge toxins from the body. We humans consume toxins in our everyday lives from our water source, the air, cleaning products, beauty products…the list goes on! Taking Spirulina everyday can heal you! It should be on the top of your shopping list! I take it everyday 🙂

Spirulina’s other benefits include:

Healing cancer, cellular degeneration, high blood pressure and Candida. Promotes healthy eyes, anti-aging, eliminates mercury and other deadly toxins, and helps prevent the onset of cardiovascular diseases.

Tips:

  • Purchase the Hawaiin Spirulina because it is the most potent and is highly recommended
  • Put it in your morning smoothie. It is the best source of protein you will ever get!
  • Mix it into a glass of apple juice
  • Sprinkle over water melon
