8 Tips to Stop Bloating

Note what bloats you.

It is important to take note of what causes you to bloat and to eliminate it from your diet temporarily and perhaps re-introduce them again later. For example, if roasted nuts make you feel bloated, remove them from your diet for a couple weeks, then re-introduce sprouted/activated nuts to see if they still make you feel bloated.

Drink water.

Sometimes all you need to do to push things through your system is more water. Water helps lubricate your digestive system. If you eat quite a bit of fiber-rich foods, but not enough water you will feel bloated and even constipated. So always make sure you are taking in enough water.

Get enough fiber in your diet (chia, kale, fruit).

Conversely, if you are feeling a little blocked up, and you know you haven’t taken in enough fruit and veg, up your intake along with upping your water intake.

Have breakfast; don’t skip meals.

Digestion starts when you smell and see food. So it’s important to start this process right in the morning with good healthy foods. Make sure your breakfast has a good source of carbohydrates, protein and healthy fats. I love making avocado on whole grain toast with a few pumpkin seeds sprinkled on top. It’s not only full of fiber but it will also keep you full.

Watch your sodium intake. Sodi-bloat.

Do you feel puffy? Have trouble taking your rings off? It could be due to your sodium intake, or sodi-bloat. Excess sodium causes water retention and bloating. So if you feel a bit puffy, read the nutritional labels of what you’ve eaten for its sodium intake.

Detox (green powders; warm lemon water).

To further help things along in your digestive track, it’s important to detox your system. Detoxing helps relax your digestive system making it easier for your body to process what you’ve eaten. Mix some green powders like chlorella, spirulina, wheat grass, lemon, ginger, and water together.

Exercise.

Sometimes after a meal, you feel a bit sluggish and bloated. As tempting as it is to sit or lie down until you’ve digested your food, it’s probably not the smartest decision. Instead, go for a light walk (nothing too strenuous). It will help with digestion (and burn some of those calories!).

Tummy tea (chamomile, senna, fennel, calendula, peppermint, ginger).

If you are still feeling a bit bloated, find a tummy tea that works for you and that you like. Depending on the combination of tea leaves (for example, fennel and senna leaf), it will have quite a laxative effect on your system, so be aware that you may need access to a bathroom if you decide to drink teas with these ingredients.
