Energy Balls

September 6, 2017

Everyone loves a quick treat to help those cravings, or to be able to pack while you’re out hiking or camping.  Below I am going to share a couple of my favourite recipes that will help you in your time of need and energy. They include healthy fats, protein, carbs, and none of that unnatural sugar that no one likes to add into their diet.

First is my Peanut Butter Protein Energy Balls. I would compare this to eating cookie dough. YES, cookie dough! An amazing boost of protein that I like to keep on hand any part of the day.

Peanut Butter Protein Energy Balls

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Peanut Butter
  • 1/4 Cup Honey
  • 1 Scoop Vanilla Whey Protein Powder
  • Shredded Coconut (Optional)

Directions

I don’t own, nor do I like using microwaves, so in a double boiler put in the peanut butter and honey until a smooth consistency. Constantly stir, you don’t want it to burn. Once you have gotten a nice silky mixture, remove the top pot and place on anything you can use that will not burn your countertops. While the mixture is still warm add in the 1 scoop of vanilla whey protein powder. Stir until you get a cookie dough like consistency. You may or may not require adding the tiniest drizzle of water, depending on what kind of peanut butter you use. When you have the desired cookie dough consistency, start rolling into ping pong size balls, and I like to roll into shredded organic coconut. You can also come up with your own creations, such as using crushed peanuts. Store in the refrigerator for up to a week.

The second recipe I am going to share with you are my Chocolate Energy Balls. Who doesn’t love chocolate? This recipe is super healthy and is great to have on hand when you need that quick boost when you’re feeling drained.

Chocolate Energy Balls

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups Pitted Dates
  • 1 Cup Walnuts
  • 1 Cup Almonds
  • 1 Cup Cacao

Directions

In a food processor place all of the above ingredients, and hit the pulse button until partially blended. When all the pieces are partly broken up you can put the food processor on low for the next minute or two until you get a smooth consistency and the nuts are chopped into small pieces. Store in the refrigerator for up to 8-10 days. You can now roll the mixture into ping pong sized balls and keep for a tasty snack.

It is important to keep healthy snacks on hand so we don’t have a mishap and find ourselves shopping in the chocolate or chip section at the gas station to help cure our hunger pains. The above recipes are quick and easy, and can be easily transported in our everyday lives.  Feel free to be creative and make your own signature Peanut Butter Protein Energy Balls or Chocolate Energy Balls.

Enjoy!
