Five Nutrients That Will Help You De-Stress

January 10, 2019

Today’s hectic lifestyle is a recipe for stress. There’s not enough hours in the day and pushing yourself means the adrenal glands are working overtime and often overproducing or underproducing hormones (depending on what stage of adrenal fatigue you’re in), leaving you feeling wired and tired.

When I’m going through a period of high-stress, I reach for these five nutrients to boost my energy and calm my mind all at the same time!

Five Nutrients That Will Help You De-Stress

Vitamin B5

Also known as pantothenic acid, is referred to as the “anti-stress” vitamin and it helps reduce fatigue. For best results it should be taken with a B complex.

Vitamin C

Reduces the stress hormone “cortisol”. Animals make their own Vitamin C and can make more in times of stress. Humans aren’t so lucky. We need to ingest it through food or supplements, so when we are under stress, it’s important that we replenish it.

Magnesium

A calming mineral that helps reduce fatigue, anxiety and insomnia, all symptoms of overworked adrenals.

Ashwaganda

Having restless sleep? Turn to this adaptogenic herb, popular in Ayurvedic medicine. It balances cortisol levels and reduces anxiety and insomnia.

Licorice

A herb that is most useful when your cortisol is low because it inhibits its breakdown which helps bring it back to normal levels. Monitor your blood pressure when you take this herb as it can raise blood pressure.
