Let’s Go Bananas!

Okay so here’s the truth about my feelings for bananas..I don’t like them! My father forced me to eat bananas since I was a kid and still today but I do without argument as an adult because even though I knew bananas were healthy as a kid, I have way more knowledge about how healthy they really are now.

Bananas aren’t just for monkeys. We should incorporate them in our daily diet and here is why..

Bananas have critical life-supporting trace minerals such as:

  • Manganese
  • Selenium
  • Copper
  • Boron
  • Molybdenum
  • Potassium

Bananas are very sweet, which is one of the reasons why bananas have been given a bad rap lately. These sugars are all NATURAL sugars! There’s a huge difference. These sugars are vital for the bonding of the minerals mentioned above. Even more so for the mineral potassium for neurotransmitter function. Their sugar content is the very reason bananas provide us antioxidants, vitamins and other phytonutrients to help us fight disease! So stop picking on bananas!

Bananas are also made up of fiber which is excellent for digestion. Bananas can alleviate gastric cramps and stress-related gastrointestinal disorders. They are the secret weapon in reversing colitis, IBS, and Crohn’s disease. Thumbs up to that 🙂

Bananas are also great blood sugar stabilizers due to the pectin and resistant starch in them. This helps you keep your weight in check 😉

Bananas are a powerful antiviral food. They have the capacity to repel of the retrovirus HIV.  WOW. They destroy fungus, removing bad bacteria while feeding beneficial microorganisms in the intestinal tract. This makes them B12 enhancing.

Because bananas are high in tryptophan, they can help soothe sleep disorders, make you calm, reduce anxiety, and alleviate depression.

Don’t you just want to go out there and buy a whole cart full of bananas?!

Here are some fun tips:

  • Craving ice cream? Make some using frozen peeled bananas. Just add them to your food processor and blend with almond mild, almond butter for some extra flavour with a dash of cinnamon. So simple and delicious!
  • Whiten your teeth using the inside of a banana peel
  • Because of the high potassium level in bananas, eat one before AND after a workout
  • Eat bananas when they are at their peak of ripeness which is yellow in colour with brown spots. Your body will absorb all the nutrients and enzymes.
