10 Nutritious Sweet Treats for Kids…

April 7, 2017

Here are 10 nutritious treats for kids that their parents will enjoy just as much.  I broke them up to some snacks that children would be more prone to eating in the fall/winter vs spring/summer.

Autumn/Winter:

  1. Rice cakes spread with All Natural Peanut Butter or Almond Butter or Apple Butter (as a low fat but sweet option)
  2. Ants on a log – cut up celery sticks and spread almond butter in the middle, top with raisins
  3. Yogurt parfaits – use all natural plain yogurt and let the kids design their own by choosing from the following toppings: maple syrup, coconut pieces, chopped up nuts, bit of fruit, ‘camino’ chocolate chips and/or any seeds including flax, hemp, etc.
  4. Chocolate fondue!  Cut up chunks of fruit. Melt dark camino chocolate chips to make a chocolate sauce, and dip the fruit in! Delicious!
  5. Granola – mix together 2 cups of gluten free oats, 2 tbsp’s of maple syrup, 1/2 cup of crushed up nuts, 2 tbsp’s of cinnamon and 1/4 cup of coconut oil. Bake for 10 min at 350 C.

Spring/Summer:

  1. Frozen Juice Pops – simply freeze naturally pressed juice in ice-pop containers
  2. “Nice Cream’ – use a good juicer or food processor to mash up frozen (previously peeled) bananas then add carbo chips, coconut pieces and/or walnuts.  Other frozen fruit without the peel can be added too, try strawberries and/or peaches.  YUM!
  3. Frozen yogurt pops – mix all natural, plain yogurt in a blender with some fresh, cut up peeled fruit.  Then pour into freezable cups or scoop into ice-cube containers.
  4. Frozen grapes or cherries – these make an excellent sweet treat, and are so easy! Simply wash your grapes or cherries, put them in a ziplock bag, and freeze them!  You can also use them as a decorative way to keep your drink cool.
  5. Fruit kabobs – simply chop up any seasonal fruit into bit sized cubes.  Put the fruit onto skewers. A perfect afternoon summer snack!
