Daily Habits To Help Detox The Body
Detoxing is our body’s way of cleaning out toxins that we encounter daily. What we eat, breathe, and even absorb through the skin needs to go through our body’s natural filter system. The skin, liver, kidneys and digestive tract are the organs involved in this process. There are many different approaches to detoxing, like fasting and juicing. There are also habits that you can incorporate into your daily life to help your body cleanse itself. Try adding a few of these into your daily routine and notice how you feel.
First thing in the morning, fill a glass with warm water and the juice of half a lemon. Lemon juice helps cleanse the liver and improve digestion. It also helps to alkalize the body.
Take a Coffee Break
Coffee isn’t necessarily bad for everyone, but it is hard on the liver. Giving your body a break every once in a while is worth considering. Try green tea instead or herbal coffee such as dandelion root.
Dry Skin Brushing
Before getting into the shower, dry brush your skin head to toe using long strides towards the heart. This will help detoxify by increasing circulation and promoting lymph drainage. It will also exfoliate dry winter skin.
Eat Whole Foods
Focus on fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and legumes. Reduce fried foods, baked goods and refined sugar. The latter are more acid-forming foods which will increase mucus production and cause inflammation in the body. Whereas whole foods increase fibre intake and help colon detoxification.
Move Your Body
Sweating is important to help eliminate toxins and increase blood flow. Aim for 30 minutes most days of the week. Make sure you drink lots of water to stay hydrated.
Detox Your Products
Detox isn’t just about what you eat and drink, its also the products you put on your skin. Make sure you are using products that are free from harmful ingredients like parabens, triclosan and phthalates.
