Lavender Essential Oil

July 4, 2018

Lavender essential oil (aka Lavandula angustifolia) is one of my favourite essential oils.  The smell reminds me of calm and can instantly put me at ease.  Lavender is likely the most used essential oil globally.

The top properties for Lavender essential oil are:

  • Analgesic
  • Antianxiety
  • Antibacterial
  • Antifungal
  • Anti-depressant
  • Antioxidant
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Calmative
  • Sedative
  • Anti-spasmodic
  • Skin healing

One of my favourite ways to use Lavender essential oil is in a soothing detox bath.  Once or twice a week, I run a hot bath and add 1 cup of Epson salts with 8 drops of Lavender oil added to it, and then 1/2 cup of baking soda.  Sit in the bath for 20 minutes and soak away the stress of your day.  For extra stress relief, light candles and put on some of your favourite soft music.  The bath will draw out impurities and help alkalize your body.

Fun fact…… Did you know that Lavender is from the mint family?
