Kicking my coffee drinking habits to the curb has been no easy task, but I had to do it. I got to the point where 2 or 3 coffees were just not cutting it. Caffeine is known to alter your circadian rhythms and influence the cortisol levels in a bad way. Altered cortisol levels can lead to increased fatigue, depressed mood, weight gain and the obvious one, caffeine dependence. I was astonished by the findings and searched how I could rectify the situation, increase my energy levels and get rid of coffee. This raw cacao smoothie was just what I needed. Although there still is caffeine present in the cacao nibs and raw cacao powder, it is in small quantities and the extra benefits such as strong antioxidants, a good source of iron and magnesium, makes it a very satisfying and energizing choice with no crashing after a few hours. Perfect for the night shift or after an intense workout with some added pumpkin seed protein powder!
Raw Cacao Smoothie
Ingredients
- 1 ½ large bananas
- 1 ½ cups almond milk
- ½ avocado
- ¼ cup of frozen mango
- 1 ½ tbs raw cacao powder
- 1 tbs cacao nibs
Instructions
- Blend all ingredients until smooth.
