Honey and Cinnamon Mask

I like to create face masks from time to time. My favourite is ones that make my skin feel bright, soft and rejuvenated. Nothing beats the feeling of skin after a much-needed exfoliation. I discovered this mask recipe when I was in the need of some pampering and relaxation from this COVID-19 life we have been living. So, I looked through my cupboard to see what I could make a concoction out of… Well, this is what I found, and I want to share it with you!

I used granulated sugar, olive oil, cinnamon, and honey. At first glance, it may not seem like much, but you will be feeling the effects of this mask. This mask is not for sensitive skin. If you can handle the heat, I would recommend this for you!

Amounts will vary on how much you would like to use and how often. Oil and sugar should be equal parts. Honey will be about half the amount and cinnamon just a dash will do.

Honey and Cinnamon Mask

Ingredients

  • Olive oil or light oil like jojoba oil, almond oil, or refined coconut oil
  • Honey, your brand of preference is great
  • Granulated/Fine Sugar: please use fine sugar crystals for your face to protect it from scratches
  • Cinnamon

Sugar is beneficial for its crystal size; this is purely for the physical portion of the exfoliating mask and will scuff away dead skin cells. Be careful not to use coarse or big crystals as this will leave scratches in the skin. Olive oil or any light oil will be nourishing to the new skin that will be exposed from removing the dead skin cells. The oil also is cleansing removing any left-over dirt debris after the cleansing prior to using this mask.

Honey is hydrating and antibacterial. Honey will hydrate the new skin cells and the antibacterial properties will help with any existing blemishes. Cinnamon will stimulate the skin bringing blood to the surface. The purpose of bringing blood to the surface of the skin is to oxygenate it. This flushes out any toxins and evens the skin tone.  This can be intense for some people, for others they might be able to handle it.

Start your self-care routine by slipping into something comfortable. Fuzzy pyjamas, loungewear or a soft bathrobe. Put your hair up and use a headband to keep your hair out of the way. Next, cleanse your face with your favourite cleanser and follow with a toner on cotton pads to remove any leftover oil and dirt. The next step will be to steam, if you don’t have a personal steamer at home, a hot damp cloth on the face will work. When applying the exfoliating mask, you will want to apply it in little clockwise circles to remove the dead skin cells, once you have done this for a minute or so, you will leave the mask on for 10-15 minutes to allow the honey and cinnamon to do their work. The honey will hydrate the skin cells and the cinnamon will start to draw blood to the surface. At this point, you will feel the heat in your cheeks, this is good, this is what we want. If it becomes too much for comfort, simply rinse the mask off. Once 10-15 minutes have been reached, remove the mask with a damp cloth, you can use a cold cloth to reduce the warmth in the face if you choose. Follow with a toner, serum and your favourite moisturizer.
