There are over one hundred benefits to a daily meditation practice. It wasn’t easy, but I have chosen my 5 favorites.
The practice of meditation is ancient. There is no exact date for when it started. Some say the state of mind is as old as humanity itself. The actual practice of sitting cross legged is debated, but there are stone carvings dating back to 2600 BC. According to Wikipedia, some of the earliest references are found in the Hindu Vedas of Nepal and India.
My 5 Favorite Benefits of Meditation
Slows Aging. This might just be the jackpot of all benefits! Who doesn’t want to slow the process of aging? Scientists at the University of California-Davis found that meditators have more activity among their white blood cells which indicates better health and longevity.
Weight Loss. Addictive foods, AKA junk food, release the feel good chemicals in our brain called dopamine and endorphins, making us crave even more! Believe it or not, meditating releases those same chemicals, which makes us less impulsive when it comes to those unhealthy snacks.
Mind Balance. Ahhhhhh balance, my favorite word. During meditation, your mind is focused on peace, serenity and calm. If practiced regularly, this will reduce fear, doubt and worry.
Compassion. “If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.” – Dalai Lama
It doesn’t get much simpler than that! Meditation is showing yourself a little compassion, if you ask me. Self-love, as we all know, is incredibly important for our overall health.
Discover Your Purpose. Our life purpose, isn’t that what we are all searching for? When we learn to silence our thoughts, judgments, and most importantly, our ego, we can find clarity.
Can you say “OMMMMMM”.
