5 Ways To Manage Your Phone Addiction
Your phone can be incredibly addicting. It’s often the first thing we check when we wake up, the last thing we look at before we close our eyes, and not to mention the unlimited scrolling we engage in during the day.
For some one that struggles with depression and anxiety, I need to be aware of how much time I spend being on my phone to keep my mental sanity in tact.
Here are my 5 tips to ensure I’m not spending all of my time on my phone:
- Schedule a block of time that I am allowed to be on my phone. This is usually after my two boys have gone to bed, the house is tidied up from the day and I am still about a couple of hours away from going to bed so my brain has time to settle.
- Keep my phone in another room than where I sleep. I invested in an old school alarm clock so I am not using my phone to wake me up. I hated it being the first thing I checked in the morning as I found it could easily set a negative tone almost instantly. I also don’t like scrolling before I go to sleep. That dull, blue light of your phone screen is not good for catching the Z’s.
- I leave my phone in my purse or out of sight when I am visiting with my friends. No one likes a friend who is constantly looking at their phone. Out of sight, out of mind!
- Download a time tracker app that tells you how long you spend on the variety of apps on your phone. This can be a true eye opener! It may motivate you to put your phone down.
- Lastly, I picked one social media account to have available on my phone. To me having Twitter, Instagram, Facebook etc…is not necessary. Pick one to keep you updated on the events and get rid of the others. Too much social media is not a good thing!
