6 Steps Towards A Healthy Life

February 26, 2019

Healthy life, healthy food…. We all have been hearing and reading about these multiple times and in different media, even so, there are still a lot of people dealing with nutrition deficiencies, health and emotional problems. Where does the problem come from? Why do people remain stuck onto the same habits? The answer is not simple and not only being exposed to all this information will encourage people to make significant changes in their lives. It could be overwhelming trying to change a lot of habits at the same time.

I would like to share with you 6 simple steps that can become long-lasting habits and bring wellness in every area in your life.

6 Steps Towards A Healthy Life

Slow Down

Yes! As simple as being calm. How many times when we open our eyes in the morning, we start doing our activities like robots?  We don’t even give our body the time to stretch and recognize how it feels. It only takes 5 minutes to stretch, give a little massage to our eyes, and if possible, bend onto your legs to have a great stretch on your column. Breathe deeply and be grateful for one more day.

Clean Toxins

As we know, it is at night when our body starts regeneration and detoxification of all our systems, and as we salivate less during sleep time detoxification is in the process, bacteria and toxins come to our mouth and tongue. A good way to get rid of this is the use of a tongue cleaner and afterwards swishing a ½ teaspoon of coconut oil in your mouth for 15 to 20 minutes. The tongue cleaner will remove bacteria and toxins from your tongue. Coconut oil contains caprylic acid and lauric acid which are known for their anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. This will help remove toxins and bacteria in the mouth and promote healthy teeth as well.

Hydration

After several hours without food and water, our body needs to be hydrated before our first meal. Why do this? If we start our morning with water, it will help our body in the process of elimination. A glass of warm water with a half a lemon juice is the perfect combination, doing this our body receives water, the best-known element on earth to hydrate, and lemon that even when is acidic, in our body turns alkaline. We are stimulating the digestive system as well, so this will be helpful for people with constipation. For best results wait at least 30 minutes to have your first meal of the day.

Being Present

We know that traffic, work, taking the kids to school, home chores, etc., are endless activities that keep us running all day long. However, there are some moments during the day when we can just close our eyes and be aware of our breathing, nothing else is needed. It is not necessary to meditate or go to yoga classes to have just 5 minutes with our breathing. This is not the only way to be present, when you are with your kids or when you are with your partner or your pet, be aware of every gesture, every smile, every word. Stop the inner voice saying “oh I need to do this, tomorrow I need to do that,  I have to …”, and so on. Enjoy the moment, enjoy your meals and be aware of every texture in it. Give yourself the time to distinguish every taste and element in your food. Eat consciously.

Exercise

Our bodies are designed to move and not necessarily in a gym. Every chance you have, take stairs instead of the elevator, take a walk after lunch. If you work seated, get up every hour and stretch a little bit. 15 to 20 minutes a day is better than nothing. A 30-minute moderate walk boosts our circulatory system, helps to control high pressure, strengthens bones and reduces body fat.

Rest

One of the most important moments of the day. Take if possible, 30 minutes before bed to massage your feet, or read a book, or even listen to some soft music. Prepare yourself for a good rest, so avoid looking at your cell phone or TV. The lack of good sleep can affect your overall health, including weight control.

We can adopt one of these steps at a time until becomes a habit and then move on to the next one. Small changes that last can make a big difference in your life.
