Benefits of Celery

March 11, 2019

Let’s talk about one of the most under-rated, overlooked vegetables in the supermarket. It sneaks under the radar.. not many people cook with it or eat it alone… Celery! I started juicing about a year ago, and during this time I just juiced strictly celery ( added an apple here and there for flavour). I noticed a major difference in the texture and overall appearance of my skin. Almost immediately I had more energy, I felt lighter on my toes, I wasn’t craving sugar anymore, and I was regular. I was amazed at this! So I began to do some research into it. Celery has so many beneficial health properties to it. I believe everyone should incorporate celery into their diet, whether it’s juicing, or eating it whole.

Celery is abundant in enzymes and antioxidants. Not only that, but celery is also loaded with essential minerals and vitamins, such as folate, potassium, vitamin B6, vitamin C, vitamin K.

Benefits of Celery

Controls Cholesterol

Celery contains a compound called “3-n-butylphthalide’ that has lipid-lowering properties. It assists in lowering LDL (bad) cholesterol, triglycerides, and increases HDL (good) cholesterol.

Calms Gastric Ulcers

Celery contains flavonoids, an antioxidant that is found in celery extract which inhibit the growth of certain bacteria. Celery extract also protects the lining of the stomach and reduces the incidence of ulcers. With a high natural sodium content, celery juice raises stomach acid, which helps break down food, thus improving gut health.

Prevents UTIs

Celery contains diuretic properties, which directly helps with the flushing of the system and preventing infections of the urinary tract. Not only that, but celery shields your kidneys and liver, helping flush the toxins from the body.

Controls Weight

Not only is celery low in calories, but it is also high in fibre. Fibre can make you feel fuller for longer periods of time. The hydrating properties of celery can also help prevent dehydration and can also give you more energy throughout the day.

Fights Cancer

Celery contains both apigenin and lutein, which are powerful antioxidants that have been linked to the destruction of cancer cells. They help seek out and neutralize free radicals in addition to shrinking tumours and slowing the spread of cancer cells.

Skin Benefits

Celery is 95% water, and hydration is important for skin health, it helps hydrate and rids access oil and also helps keep acne at bay.

Acts as an Anti-inflammatory

Celery has an anti-inflammatory compound that can protect against flare-ups in the body that can cause pain and other health issues ( arthritis, osteoporosis etc.)

Lowers Blood Pressure

Celery contains phthalides, which works to relax artery walls and increases blood flow. Due to the magnesium content in celery, it can also boost your energy and aids in muscle recovery.

So given these reasons, there is no doubt in my mind that celery has huge health benefits. If you want to start looking good and feeling good, this is one simple addition to add to your daily routine. What better way to start the day but with a big glass of CELERY JUICE.
