If you are anything like me, chips are a vice, so this is a really great way to enjoy crispy, cheesy flavoured snacks without eating processed foods or animal products. Kale is full of antioxidants, iron, calcium and magnesium. It is a cruciferous vegetable which means that it is part of a family of vegetables that have anti-cancer benefits. Nutritional yeast is a source of vitamin B12, which is important if you are not eating animal products. These chips don’t last long in my home!
Cheesy Kale Chips
Ingredients
- 1 Bunch kale
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- 4 tbsp nutritional yeast
- ½ tsp sea salt
Directions
- Wash and dry kale, a salad spinner works well for this.
- Remove large stems and rip into large chip sized pieces, they will shrink slightly when dehydrated.
- Place kale in large bowl and massage olive oil onto kale with clean hands, ensuring that you get oil onto all areas.
- In small bowl, combine garlic powder, nutritional yeast and sea salt.
- Add seasonings to kale and mix until coated.
- Spread kale out on dehydrator trays, without overlapping the kale.
- Dehydrate for 4 hours, or until crispy.
Chips can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week – that is if you can resist them that long!
