Is it just me or have chia seeds taken over the world?? They’re in everything these days! You can find them in granola bars, oatmeal, breads, fruits sauces, etc. And its not just the food industry that’s jumping on this band wagon. Chia seeds are becoming staples in everyone’s pantry.
They’ve been referred to as superfoods and they are definitely living up to that name. Chia seeds are not only rich in numerous vitamins and minerals, they’re also high in protein and omega 3 fatty acids. Something you might not know about chia seeds is that they have a certain gelatinous quality to them. Once they’re incorporated into liquids, they become excellent thickeners or even egg substitutes ideal for baking. I routinely use them to make puddings as well as jams, making them that much more nutritious.
My latest venture in the kitchen has been another chia seed creation. I came across this new product in my local grocery store that peaked my curiosity. Chia drinks. So I went home and got busy whipping up my own version. These are extremely versatile and even easier to make. Lately, I’ve been incorporating these coconut water chia drinks into my post workout routine to help replenish my electrolytes as well as provide my body with the protein and carbohydrates it needs to recover.
