Cold Comfort Tea

April 24, 2017

Winter is almost behind us, but for those of you who are struggling with the harsh reality of the cold season, I have a homemade herbal tea recipe to ease your symptoms.

In my special blend of herbs for this recipe, you will find echinacea.

One the many benefits of echinacea is that it is a powerful immune system stimulant. This claim is supported by an article published in the journal Lancet Infectious Diseases, where the University of Connecticut performed a meta-analysis study that evaluated 14 studies and determined that:

Echinacea cuts the chances of catching a common cold by 58 percent and reduces the duration of the common cold by almost one-and-a-half days.

Here are the ingredients for my Cold Comfort Tea:

  • 1 tablespoon of Echinacea Root
  • 2 tablespoon of Peppermint Leaves
  • 1/2 tablespoon of Yarrow Leaves
  • 1/2 tablespoon of Lemon Balm Leaves
  • 1/2 tablespoon of Sage Leaves
  • Honey,  to taste

Instructions:

Mix all the herbs and steep 1/2 tablespoon in 1 cup of hot (not boiled; it’s best not to bring water to a boil, but rather simmer, because these delicate parts of the plant can lose some of their medicinal properties when boiled). To use, drink as needed at the onset of a cold. Store the rest of your mixed herbs in an air tight container.

Hope this tea will provide you comfort to get you through cold season!

Cheers !
