The Effects Of Simple Sugars

Understanding why you should not eat refined grains and sugar is more than “it’s not healthy”. When you eat sugar and things like white bread and white pasta your blood sugar rises in your body. The pancreas then releases insulin to move sugar from the blood into cells where it can be used as energy. Any extra is stored as glycogen in your liver and muscles for later use.

If you consistently eat a high sugar and refined grain diet your body will become desensitized to insulin. Over time it will require more insulin to perform properly until cells get the message. When this keeps happening by repeated simple carbohydrate intake the situation gets worse each time, and the threshold gets higher putting tremendous stress on the pancreas. Over time this can result in full diabetes.

It is much easier to prevent diabetes than treat it later. Be sure and get 30 minutes of exercise a day, get enough sleep, reduce stress and eat well balanced meals with whole grains. Sugar should be an occasional treat, not something that is consumed throughout each day.
