Green Superfood Smoothie
The constant quest going on inside my head – how to ingest an adequate amount of protein in the morning and pack as many servings of vegetables into my day as possible. One of my favorite solutions – green superfood smoothie of the moment. I’ll share my most recent favorite in this post.
I love to cook and create things. I loathe measuring. And honestly, are you going to start pulling tablespoons and measuring cups out of your cabinet when you’re late for work in the morning? No, you’re going to do what I do and throw as many delicious, nutrient dense things into the blender as you can in 3 minutes flat and hope that it tastes delicious as you’re driving down the road. With that being said, please enjoy this loose interpretation of a recipe and adjust as you see fit.
Ingredients:
- ¼ to ½ cup of blueberries (Hey, use more if you want. Berries are good stuff.)
- Handful of greens (baby kale, spinach, sometimes I grab a leaf of chard from the garden. I don’t know how to make a smoothie that isn’t green…)
- ¼ to 1 whole banana (depending on how much natural sugar you want)
- 1 to 3 dates (again, natural sugar)
- spoonful of almond or cashew butter
- spoonful of coconut oil or ¼ of an avocado (avocado makes it really thick and creamy)
- 1 scoop (serving) of protein powder. Recently I’ve been using Vega brand because it tastes pretty good and isn’t as gritty as other vegan powders I’ve tried. Or I use a serving of grass-fed Gelatin Collagen Hydrolysate (so much for vegan).
- approx. 1 cup liquid (I use mostly coconut milk with a little water)
Now for the fun part – add ins!
Use whatever floats your boat and addresses your needs, such as:
- Maca
- Moringa
- Green coffee bean or matcha (if you need a little kick)
- Green superfood powder (if you are vegetable obsessed like I am)
- Chia seeds (fiber, fullness, omegas)
- Stevia if your protein powder isn’t sweetened (I love Now brand french vanilla flavor)
As my mom would say, “Good and good for you!” She taught me well.
