Health Benefits of Elderberry

May 23, 2020

Elderberry is one of the most commonly used medicinal plants in the world. Native Americans and European herbalists have long used elderberries for their many health benefits. The flowers, fruits and leaves of the plant are overflowing with vitamins, antioxidants and fibre that can help boost your immune system.

Elderberry has been used for:

  • Joint and muscle pain
  • Prevention and treatment of colds and flu
  • Stress
  • Fever
  • Headaches
  • Inflammation  and swelling
  • Pain relief

Health Benefits of Elderberry

  • High in Vitamins A and  C
  • A good source of flavonoids
  • High in anthocyanins (an antioxidant with anti-inflammatory effects)
  • High in dietary fibre

Other Health Benefits

  • May reduce the levels of uric acid in the blood
  • Increases insulin secretion and improves blood sugar levels
  • Fights harmful bacteria
  • May have some anti-depressant properties
  • Supports the immune system
  • Increases urinary secretion
  • May reduce levels of fat in the blood and decrease cholesterol

Due to the potent antiviral effect of elderberry, I would highly recommend taking it daily during this COVID-19 pandemic, in order to strengthen one’s immunity.
