My Love For Coconut Oil
It’s true, I have a love for coconut oil. Those who know me, know that I use coconut oil for so many things. I am constantly recommending it. It’s even the one item I would want to have with me if I were ever stranded on a deserted island! So why does my love for coconut oil run so deep? Let me explain…
Coconut oil contains healthy fats, called medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs). These MCFAs increase the healthy cholesterol (HDL) in your body, while also lowering the bad cholesterol (LDL). By regulating your cholesterol levels, coconut oil helps promote heart health and lowers your risk of heart disease.
Unlike other fats, MCFAs are processed by the liver, this means that they are immediately converted into energy instead of being stored as fat. This results in improved energy and endurance as well as an increase in your metabolism. This makes coconut oil a superstar ally when it comes to losing weight -especially that stubborn belly fat! You can start reaping these benefits by adding it to your meals everyday!
Coconut oil is great for baking and cooking. It can replace butter in recipes at a ration of 1:1. It can also be added to smoothies, coffee, teas and soups. Because of it’s high smoking point, it’s also a great choice for cooking and sauteing at high temperatures.
Oh but there’s so much more!
Keytones, found in coconut oil, have also been associated with improved cognitive function. One of the MCFAs found in coconut oil, is lauric acid. Lauric acid is known to boost the immune system, while being antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral. This makes coconut oil a great first defense on cuts, scrapes and burns -which could come in handy on a deserted island.. As well as at a park, beach or camping trip!
Its antiviral properties also makes it a great addition to your cold and virus remedies. The lauric acid found in coconut oil helps to fight bacteria on the inside and outside of your body. While helping to reduce inflammation when taken internally, it also moisturizes and protects when used externally on the skin. Which is why coconut oil is the base of so many natural skin care creams and lotions.
It’s been associated with preventing gum disease, tooth decay and cavities, which is why it also makes a great tooth paste. Did i mention that it has a natural SPF of around 4? -Which is yet another reason why I believe it would be a great choice item for a deserted island!
Whether coconut oil would be your deserted island item or not, it’s wide ranging health benefits, along with skin, hair and around the home uses are powerful. Some, like myself, might even say that it is a superhero food!
To start benefiting from all that coconut oil has to offer, make sure to choose a good quality, non-pressed, extra virgin organic coconut oil.
