Do you ever go to bed at night telling yourself you are going to be productive, or eat healthier, or be more active, etc the next day? And then you wake up the next morning, and well, you’re tired, so you hit snooze a time or two and roll out of bed begrudgingly last minute and get ready for work? I know I have… and I know it doesn’t feel very good, and doesn’t make for a very productive or fulfilling day in general. I’d like to share with you some tips and tricks I have used over the years to get my day started off right.
Rock Your Morning, Rock Your Life – Here’s How
Get Out Of Bed The First Time
First off, turn off the darn Snooze option. Set your alarm for the time you want to get up and just get up. Its a small step. Get out of bed. Hitting the snooze button and trying for that couple minutes of sleep is not going to benefit you, I promise. Just get up.
Have A Plan And Things In Place
The night before, set yourself up for greatness. Set out your clothes for the next day, pack your lunch in advance, whatever it is you need to do in the morning, get as much done the night before. It only takes a couple minutes and will leave you with the time and mental resources to rock your morning and therefore rock your day which ultimately leads to rocking your life! Plus, when your alarm goes off, you now don’t have a million little things you need to do.
Drink Some Water
When you first wake up, have some water. Allow your body to wake up internally and flush out anything no longer serving you. I personally enjoy a glass of warm water, often with some lemon squeezed into it. This feels amazing on my belly and it’s comforting knowing I am balancing my internal ph and setting myself up for a good day. As we sleep our bodies repair and recharge and detoxify. Help yourself flush out what you don’t need anymore. Drinking water in the morning also starts up the engine and gets your belly prepped for breaky. It also sets you on the right foot for getting in adequate hydration. Might as well start first thing!
Move Your Body
The Laws of Physics state that a body in motion stays in motion. And that means your body too. Now, even if you toss and turn at night, your body is mostly dormant… for a long time. I suggest starting with some nice organic feeling movements, just find what feels good in your body. Breathe deep, stretch your lungs, do some yoga or just simple stretches. Perhaps do some squats or jumping jacks, or if it’s nice out where you live, go for a little walk, even just around the block. It’ll change your day for the better – our bodies are meant to move. (cue music, ‘I like to move it, move it”)
Set Simple Goals For Your Day, The Day Before
Oftentimes people hear the ‘set goals’ lingo and their eyes glaze over. It’s a good thing to do, I swear. I like to set daily goals for myself. They aren’t huge lofty goals, just small things, like taking my vitamins and supplements, doing 10 squats, making that phone call I’ve been procrastinating on, etc. I like to call these ‘little wins’ and consider life like a tournament. Lots of little wins to win the tournament. I use a daily planner type journal and the evening before, I jot down my little goals for the following day. Find what works for you.
So all in all, what I am saying here is to set yourself up for greatness and to give youself the best chance, do it the night before. When your alarm goes off in the morning, hop out of bed and rock your day. You’ll be amazed at the difference it makes in your life. I’d love to hear some of your ways to be your best. Please share in the comments! Perhaps it will inspire someone.
