Say Aloha To Aloe Vera
The first thing you think of when you hear “aloe vera” is probably sun burn. You think of that bright green bottle of goop that your mom or dad would force you to slather on your back after spending the day at the beach. And most likely, that was your first interaction with anything aloe vera.
But did you know that aloe vera has a whole list of helpful uses?
And no, not the chemical-filled bright green goop aloe. I’m talking the fresh, 5 dollar aloe vera plant you can buy.
It’s a weird concept, walking up to your living room plant, chopping off a chunk, and healing all your problems. But, it’s true! My aloe vera plants have healed everything from sunburn to dermatitis rashes on my face. And I’m sharing the good news so you, too, can hack up your household plants and feel good about it.
These are 5 ways that I have personally tried, and succeeded, using aloe vera.
5 Reasons To Use Aloe Vera:
- Your aloe vera plant is FILLED with antioxidant and antibacterial properties. That means that if you find yourself with a bad scrape, open up a piece of aloe and use the gel to clean the wound and protect it from infection.
- It helps digestion and relieves constipation. Aloe vera contains a natural laxative that helps your digestive system move along smoothly. It also has anti-inflammatory properties which help minimize discomfort. Aloe has a very bitter taste however, so it’s more common to find an organic juice form for this use.
- Sunburn, of course! We all knew what we were doing with that green goop. It definitely was helpful, but nothing’s more effective than the 100% pure aloe vera you’ve got growing. It’s been shown to reduce healing time of sunburn and to quickly soothe the discomfort that comes along with it.
- Detox. Between the helpful digestive properties and the fact that it’s loaded with antioxidants, aloe vera is a huge help in detoxification. It’ll do a great job of keeping you regular, as well as helping to remove dangerous toxins that have built up in your body.
- Aloe vera can soothe and diminish the presence of rashes or skin irritations. From dermatitis, to poison ivy, or even just a bug bite, it is a safe and natural way to relieve any irritation as well as to speed up the healing process.
These are just a few of my own personal uses of aloe vera, but there are many reasons to give it a go! You can find it in several forms, but I highly recommend purchasing a plant for any topical needs or finding an organic, 100% pure juice for any internal needs. Either way, you’re sure to find success!
