This Elderberry Syrup Recipe is Scrumptious!
Whenever I feel a cold coming on or the children begin to show symptoms of a cold, I give them elderberry syrup. I also use it during cold/flu season to give their immune system a boost and prevent illness. It is filled with many beneficial components. The entire family loves it!
Delicious Elderberry Syrup Recipe
- 1 cup of Dried organic elderberries
- 4 cups of distilled water
- 1 cup of honey
- 2-3 cinnamon sticks
- 4 cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon fresh lemon juice or twos slices of lemon
- 4 quarter slices of ginger (optional)
Directions
Add all ingredients except honey. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let simmer for 30-40 minutes. Drain elderberry juice using a fine mesh strainer or cheese cloth. Be sure to smash the elderberries to get any extra juice from them. Add honey. Pour into glass containers and store in the refrigerator for up to 30 days. For longer storage freeze into ice cube trays and use at a later date.
Children take 1/2 teaspoon to 1 teaspoon daily during flu/cold season to prevent illness. Adults take 1 1/2 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon daily. During illness take every 2-3 hours. Dosages can be increased about a 1/2 teaspoon when sick.
Enjoy!
