Turmeric Lemonade is one of my favourite things to drink when I feel a summer cold coming on. Turmeric is a natural anti-inflammatory, so when it feels too hot out to be drinking tea, this recipe will help cure your cold and cool you down!
Turmeric Lemonade
Makes: 1 Serving
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups Water
- 3 tablespoons Lemon Juice
- 3 tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar
- 1-2 teaspoons Turmeric (start at 1 and increase according to your tastes)
- 1-2 teaspoons Ginger (start at 1 and increase according to your tastes)
- 2 tablespoons Maple Syrup (or to taste)
- Sprinkle of Black Pepper*
Directions
- Mix all of the above ingredients together.
- I like to mix mine in a one litre mason jar, then fill it with ice and give it a good shake to chill it!
- Garnish with lemon slices if you wish.
*This may seem like a very out of place ingredient, but I assure you it is not. Black pepper contains Piperine which increases the bio-availability of Curcumin. Curcumin is a polyphenol in turmeric that gives it so many health benefits. Therefore, to maximize the benefits of turmeric (and to reduce the length of your cold!) you should add a sprinkle of black pepper to your lemonade, and any other recipe that you make that includes turmeric.
Enjoy!
