Si habla español. Laura is an experienced professional with a history of working at the intersection between human health and the environment. Over the years, she has refined her focus to nutritional therapy.
She earned a BA in Environmental Science and MS in Interdisciplinary Ecology and set out to find a career in Environmental Health. After working in Washington, DC, on chemical exposure issues in our lives, especially pesticides and endocrine disruptors, she made a change of course and joined the US Peace Corps.
She was assigned to volunteer in the Ecuadorian Amazon, where she lived over the next ten years. She served as a Peace Corps Volunteer, owned and managed a restaurant, but ultimately became the Executive Director of a small nonprofit and a mom. Under her direction for nearly seven years, the nonprofit addressed the diverse programming areas of education, eco-agriculture, forest conservation, health and youth development. During this decade, she gained a deeper understanding and appreciation of the importance of food systems, food culture, the power of plants, and traditional medicine.
Returning to North America while entering her 40s with two children, she started feeling run down with migraines. She recognized it was time to pay attention to herself. In her efforts to return to optimal health, she discovered functional medicine and nutritional therapy. After greatly improving her own health, she decided to become a practitioner in order to do the same for those around her.
