The Benefits of Indoor Plants
We could not live without plants, they provide us with so much in our natural environment, food, home to other species, beauty, oxygen, shade, privacy, comfort, the list goes on. There’s nothing like planting your feet in the grass after a long winter. Why not grow and nurture some indoors, they have amazing benefits on the inside too!
They purify the Air
Just like they do outdoors, indoor plants give off oxygen during the day and help absorb carbon dioxide. They also help absorb other indoor contaminates such as VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) that can cause headaches, nausea, skin irritations, congestion, and fatigue.
They humidify the air
Plants give off moisture, naturally humidifying the air, perfect in winter time to naturally keep airways moist and help prevent drying of the skin.
They can improve your wellbeing
Ever wonder why people send flowers or a plant when someone is in the hospital, or a funeral?
Plants have the ability to improve our mood, reducing stress levels, and promote a feeling of relaxation. They can help promote healing and provide us with a sense of comfort. The extra oxygen they omit plus the need to care for them can improve our mental and physical health.
They make wonderful natural remedies
Certain plants can be used as natural remedies for things like indigestion, nausea, sunburn, acne, and congestion. I have grown and used Aloe Vera plants for years, they are easy to care for and have provided relief for sunburns, and other skin eruptions. Peppermint, chamomile, and eucalyptus are also good remedy plants.
Now that you know some of the benefits of growing plants indoors why not try including one, or a few in your living space. Provided that you have some form of natural light to nourish your plants, keeping plants indoors can be low maintenance and quite enjoyable. There are numerous types that require little attention and effort, yet you can still reap all the benefits. Do some research on the plants you would like to add to your space and get growing today!
