How to Relieve a Cold

While a nutritious diet, plenty of sleep and lots of good, clean water can go a long way in keeping your body healthy; everyone is likely to catch a cold at some point. Here’s a quick protocol to follow the next time you feel a bug coming on.

How to Relieve a Cold

Vitamin A

50,000-100,000 IU daily up to a week and then gradually decrease your dosage to 25,000-50,000 over the next several days.

Vitamin C

1-2 grams every couple of hours (it is used up very rapidly when you are sick).

Zinc

50-100 mg daily split into several doses. If you find this upsets your stomach, back off the dosage. Zinc lozenges are a good way to split the dosage up. (*Note – excess zinc can deplete copper and manganese. When you have backed off the zinc, it is wise to supplement with extra copper and manganese for a few weeks).

Colloidal Silver

Colloidal Silver helps to boost immune function. Follow the dosing instructions on your bottle, as they can be slightly different.

Helpful Herbs

Garlic (in capsules or fresh), echinacea (capsules or tea), and goldenseal are all useful during times of acute illness.

If you feel your sickness is due more to bacteria rather than viral, propolis and/or myrrh may be used.

Dietary Recommendations

If you feel a cold coming on, eat lightly. Steer clear of processed, heavy foods and drinks, such as meat, dairy, and sugary foods and instead have soups, cooked vegetables or salads. Drink mostly water, but freshly pressed vegetable juices (a small amount of fruit added is OK) may help your body get the nutrients it needs.

Don’t forget to get plenty of rest, reduce stress, and in no time you will be back to feeling like your old self!
