Weight Gain During Period

Weight gain happens a week before the period starts and the reason is the change that happens in hormones during this time which leads to water retention, in addition to the increase of the weight of the uterus.

Weight gain happens in the rate of 2 kg for most women during this time.

Food and sugar cravings increase in the time before the period and to avoid weight gain, you can do the following:

  • Drink at least 2 litres of water to avoid water retention.
  • Avoid salty foods like chips, salted nuts, pickles and olives to reduce water retention.
  • Make sure you keep eating healthy foods.
  • Replace sweets with dried fruits.
