Who doesn’t love pizza and “wing” night!? Just because you eat plant based doesn’t mean you have to miss out! These buffalo “wings” are crispy and spicy on the outside and tender on the inside with a healthy dose of plant based protein! Get cooking!!
Spicy not your thing? Well feel free to use whatever sauce you prefer whether it be teriyaki, sweet chili, jerk, barbecue, chipotle or just simply spiced with seasonings like dill, ranch or nacho cheese!! The possibilities are endless!!!
Buffalo Tofu Wings
Ingredients
- 1 block extra firm tofu (pressed)
- 8 tbsp (approx.) tapioca starch
- 3/4 cup plant milk (I used oat)
- 1 1/2 cups (approx.) panko breadcrumbs
- 3/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
- 1/8 tsp black pepper
- Hot sauce of choice to coat (I used Franks Red Hot)
Directions
- Pre-heat the oven to 425 degrees
- Cut pressed tofu into about 18 wings or desired shape about 1/2″ thick
- Put tapioca starch in one bowl, your plant milk in another and finally the panko mixed with the spices in another
- Coat each piece in starch, then milk and followed by the panko
- Then back to the milk and panko again ensuring each piece is thoroughly coated
- Bake for approx. 20 minutes (depending on the size of your pieces), flip and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the wings are nice and crispy!
- Toss in hot sauce (or your favourite sauce) and enjoy!!
