5 Ways To Naturally Boost Your Metabolism

November 24, 2017

Just as important as what you eat to nourish your body, is how you metabolize the food you choose.  Some people are lucky and naturally have fast metabolisms, finding it harder to put on weight and easier to maintain weight, while other people’s metabolisms may be on the sluggish side.

5 Ways To Naturally Boost Your Metabolism

Regular physical exercise

Moving your body is a super way to release tension and feel good, and done regularly and mindfully you will build bone strength and density.  Not only is it good for your mental health and keeps you fit and strong, but it can actually change your DNA to increase your body’s metabolism.

Eat breakfast

Breakfast isn’t just a tasty meal, it is also very important for your body.  Eating first thing in the morning will give you the fuel you need for the day and kick starts your metabolism, whereas skipping this meal can actually slow down your metabolism as your body tries to conserve energy.

Eat enough fiber

While making your breakfast be sure to include some fiber rich foods like brown rice, millet, chia and flax seeds, quinoa, squash or yams to further boost your metabolism.  Fiber fills you up and can help reduce daily cravings while maintaining blood sugar levels.

For an easy, delicious breakfast soak some millet or brown rice overnight.  Cook it up in the morning and add some shredded carrot and chopped kale half way through.  Toss with a mixed tablespoon of flax, lemon and tamari and sprinkle a handful of pumpkin seeds on top.

Spice it up!

Another great way to increase your metabolism is to add heating spices like curry and cayenne to your dishes. These natural stimulants fire up your energy and metabolism and increase blood flow to the brain and digestive system.  Cayenne pepper also has been found to have fat burning effects.

Vitamin C

This super antioxidant is imperative for preserving your metabolism.  It provides adrenal support by stimulating the release of the stress hormones epinephrine and norepinephrine which are vital to our precious metabolism.  Adding some strawberries to your morning bowl or broccoli and red pepper to a stir fry are some easy ways to get more of this important nutrient.
