When one begins to take an interest in everything related to holistic health, the first observation we make is that it is frightening to realize how much we are surrounded by chemicals and pollutants, whether in our food, our work environment, outside or in our homes. The many products that we use to clean our clothes, our cars and the interior of our homes, in particular, are filled with chemicals. In many cases, unfortunately, they are toxic to our health.
If you’re lucky, I suggest you listen to the movie Stink, which you’ll find on Netflix. It clearly shows how much we are surrounded by these products that are harmful to our health. After learning all these pollutants, I decided to find homemade recipes to clean the inside of my house and my clothes.
The recipe I propose is a recipe that cleans clothes and that I use now for more than 6 months. This recipe is economical, natural, ecological and cleans clothes very effectively. In addition, when I wash clothes, I love the smell that emanates from my washer.
Natural Homemade Laundry Soap
Ingredients
- 6 cups (1.5 litres) of boiling water
- 1 cup (250 mL) of baking soda
- ¼ cup (60 ml) salt 1 cup (250 ml) of Castile * liquid soap
- ½ cup (125 mL) white vinegar
* You will find Castile soap in natural products stores or on Amazon’s website.
Instructions
- Mix together the water and vinegar.
- Mix together baking soda with salt.
- Mix the Castile soap with the mixture from Step 1.
- Mix together the two mixtures (the liquid mixture with the solid mixture).
- Do it gently and in small amounts, since the baking soda will tend to create effervescence in contact with the liquid.
Personally, I use a large glass bottle to keep this soap to avoid plastic pollutants. This soap can be kept for several months
When it comes time to make a load, I always shake my bottle before to make sure that the soap is uniform. When the washer is filled to more than half of its capacity, I pour 3/4 cups of this soap.
