Kick Coffee With Chicory Root!
If you are wanting to get your Candida overgrowth under control, part of that is giving up caffeine. Though there are many studies out there that show the health benefits of drinking coffee it can also cause spikes in your blood sugar which can then feed your Candida overgrowth.
Too much caffeine can also drain your immune system by stressing your adrenal glands. When we consume too much caffeine it puts our adrenal glands to work producing adrenaline which in some people can create adrenal fatigue, weight gain, moodiness and sleep disruption. I’m a believer in anything in moderation, and in the 21 day cleanse I’m about to start to improve my own health, it allows the option to reintroduce coffee back into your diet during the second phase of the cleanse.
I think in the end we need to listen to our bodies and if you find, once you have given Candida the boot, that coffee in moderation has no negative effects on your health, then enjoy that morning cup of Joe! In the meantime, one popular coffee substitute I’ve been reading about is Roasted Chicory Root! I had no idea what this was, never mind having tried it before, but if you’re like me and like starting your day with a good cup of coffee, then it may be worth trying out! Here are a few of the health benefits chicory root has to offer.
4 Health Benefits of Chicory Root
Digestion. Chicory root helps increase the production of bile and supports the breakdown and metabolism of fats. The bitter taste of chicory can help facilitate the emptying of the gallbladder improving digestion and liver function.
Prebiotic. What is a prebiotic? Prebiotics are basically food for the digestive flora found in your digestive tract. It’s a soluble fiber that your body is unable to digest. Containing inulin, chicory root is an excellent food source for your digestive flora.
Helps You Poop. Inulin isn’t just food for digestive flora, it also helps pull toxins from our body, boosts digestion and can help relieve constipation. Being a natural fiber, inulin can promote peristaltic motions, making bowel movements easier!
Inflammation. Chicory is full of antioxidants and can help reduce inflammation in the body. Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, it has traditionally been used to treat arthritis, it can also help reduce muscle pains and joint soreness for the same reason.
