I had some overnight oats when I was out of town a few weekends ago, and thought it was a brilliant idea to make when I got home. Not only were they delicious and full of nutrition but I could prepare the dry ingredients way ahead of time so it would help cut down on my meal prep time. Feel free to customize as you wish and play around with different flavours. I’ve wanted to try some with almond butter in it but haven’t yet.
Overnight Oats
Recipe
- 3/4 cup gluten free rolled oats (or flakes)
- 1 tsp ground flax seed
- 1 tsp hemp hearts
- 1 tsp raw sunflower seeds
- 1 tsp chia seeds
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- Unsweetened vanilla almond milk
- Fresh or frozen berries
- Mix all the dry ingredients in a mason gar, or glass container. Also, prepare your toppings. I’ve been using fresh berries so I generally wash them around this time and bag them in pre portioned bags so it’s easy to add in the morning.
- The night before (or 2 nights before), fill the mason jar with almond milk to just a bit above the dry ingredients line. I haven’t been measuring this. You will just want to play around with the consistency that you like. Set it in the fridge overnight.
- In the morning, grab your mason jar, and your bag of prepared (just washed and stems removed/sliced if need be) fresh berries. Add the berries to the oats, stir and enjoy.
