Over the years I have been trying to incorporate more raw and simple foods into my diet. This recipe is one that I made in order to keep my favourite meal (breakfast) healthy and exciting.
Raw Apple Sauce
Ingredients:
- 3-5 Apples
- 1 TBS Cinnamon
- 2 TBS Fresh lemon juice
Instructions:
- Peel and core 3-5 large apples of your choice (I prefer Granny Smith, Macintosh or a combination of the two).
- Roughly chop apples and add to a food processor.
- Squeeze lemon and add cinnamon into the food processor and pulse until desired constancy, careful to not over process or you will get apple juice.
This simple recipe saves time and keeps many of the nutrients viable. This sauce is wonderful on its own or as a topping.
I use raw applesauce on top overnight oats* or add chopped nuts for a quick snack.
My favourite way to make overnight oats:
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup steel cut oats
- 1 TBS ground flax
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
Mix dry ingredients and add water.
Let oats soak over night and top with fresh fruit, nut butter or apple sauce.
