Tea Time – Make It Work for You
After water, tea is the most highly consumed beverage in the world and green tea is the healthiest choice! Green tea has been used medicinally for thousands of years.
Green tea has a lot of beneficial nutrients. One polyphenol, EGCG or Epigallocatechin gallate, is creating a lot of buzz, and for good reason! This nutrient is found in most natural fat burning supplements. EGCG has been proven to help reduce body fat percentages because it naturally increases the body’s metabolism. EGCG also helps move the body to burn fat as a primary source of energy.
EGCG is a very powerful antioxidant. EGCG can destroy free-radicals before they damage our cells, and studies have shown that EGCG can slow the growth rates of some cancerous tumors.
EGCG also enhances overall brain function. Experts found that EGCG promotes the creation of new neurons within the brain (a process known as neurogenesis). This can enhance cognitive function improving short and long-term memory and plays a role in the prevention of degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and dementia.
The amino acid L-theanine and the caffeine in green tea also improve brain function. L-theanine increases the activity of the neurotransmitter GABA, which has anti-anxiety effects. It also increases dopamine, the “feel good” hormone.
The powerful antioxidants in green tea have been explored in other medicinal applications and may be responsible for lowering the risk of heart disease by helping to reduce LDL (bad cholesterol) levels.
The catechins in green tea may inhibit the growth of bacteria and some viruses, improving your dental health and eliminating bad breathe.
It seems the attributes for drinking green tea are endless. When it is tea time, take a break, relax and choose a loose leaf organic green tea.
Enjoy!
