8 Ways To Slow The Aging Process

Aging is a natural process that occurs when we get older. There is no way to avoid or stop the process.  However, there are things that can be done to slow the aging process down.

This explains why there are some older people who look and feel younger, in addition to younger people who look and feel old.  Our lifestyles can accelerate or decelerate the aging process.

Below I am going to share with you ways to slow-down the effects of aging and stay younger longer.

8 Ways to Slow Down The Aging Process

Eat meals that provide adequate nutrition. Bio-active compounds found in fruits and vegetables affect certain biological processes and promote healthy aging.

Continue to learn and challenge your mind. Be open to trying new things and evolving in different ways.

Minimize emotional stress, adjust to it, or develop techniques to deal with life’s daily stress. This one is highly important. Research shows that stress can accelerate the aging process on a cellular level.  Fortunately, there are things that can be done to deal with stress.  Meditation, relaxation therapy, massages, and exercising are some ways to alleviate stress.

Limit Alcohol consumption to a maximum of 1-2 glasses daily.  Alcohol forces your kidneys to work harder and robs your body of vitamin A. (An antioxidant important for cell renewal).

Do not use drugs. Substance abuse causes a person’s cognitive abilities to decline. Sometimes, permanent brain damage can result from substance abuse. It also causes the skin to wrinkle, which can make a person appear older than they really are.

Consume adequate amounts of antioxidants.  Free radicals damage cell parts. Antioxidants interact with free radicals to keep cells from becoming damaged.

Sleep 7-8 hours a day. Research has shown that sleep deprivation causes the skin to age faster.

Exercise 3-4 times a week. For 1 hour minimum. Exercise can help reverse age related changes at the cellular level.

So, there you have it.  Lifestyle choices can have a huge impact on the aging process.

FYI- While we can do things to slow down the aging process, it is equally important we embrace the whole idea of getting older.
