My passion for healthy eating and building a healthy lifestyle came through an even larger passion for sustainability. I believe that everything is tied back to sustainability and if we as a species intend to flourish and sustain human life we need to be more conscious of health and diet – it impacts much more then just our own bodies.
I was raised in an amazing, loving, large family in Kitchener Waterloo, Ontario. My heritage is more or less half German, half Irish, and we were raised on meat and potatoes. Bless my mom’s heart for trying to inject some health into our diets with whole wheat things and vegetables other then potatoes and carrots. When we were younger, however, my sisters and I were not really into the health injection. We preferred Dad’s white bread grilled cheese, sugar-added peanut butter and white pasta/fake cheese Kraft Dinner. As a teenager my eating habits did not improve, involving a lot of fast food, and my waistline reflected it.
It was only when I moved out for the first time during my six-month co-op term, in-between a two-year Food and Beverage Management program that I started to cook more healthily for myself. In the 10-plus years since then, I have lived and travelled around British Columbia, Mexico, Italy and Toronto. In all of these adventures, my next meal was always on my mind!
Cooking is a huge passion for me and a big priority in my life. I try to take recipes or inspiration from many sources and adapt them to what I have on hand and to be healthier in as many ways as I can. I’m currently living in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario and hope to spread the desire to eat and cook healthier to each of my clients. More specifically, the goal is to do so in a way that works well with their schedule and level of commitment.
