Wow!! I Cant believe this is where I am today!! Before my children I was a kraft dinner, Mr. Noodle, anything goes, junk food eating kind of gal. I remember that strong love I had for that ol’ kraft dinner, eating it till my belly was so over stuffed it hurt! Nutrition was NOT on my mind AT all, but junk food sure was!! I even remember tackling one of my coworkers to the floor (in good fun of course) in attempt to steal the Halloween candy she was putting together for a group of children. Yep. I was THAT girl. That was moi. I ABSOLUTLEY loved to eat! But wait…… I still do!! And yes, sometimes I still do enjoy a bowl of Kraft dinner! Say what?? A holistic nutritionist that eats the odd bowl of Kraft mac and cheese?? What the??!! Well come one, we are ALL human here, lets be real. I do not believe that you ABSOLUTELY can not EVER eat junk food or treats. I believe more in 90-95% good nutrition, while the other 5-10% can be saved for something special.
I am a mom of two beautiful children and one adult husband (so I guess you could say, I am a mom of 3). I am currently employed full time as a Community Support Worker with Mental Health and Addictions Services. I very much enjoy the work that I do, and the individuals that I support. However, my interest in holistic approaches has become a big part of my life over the past few years.
My journey all began, when my oldest was four, approximately 7 years ago. She had started a pre-primary program that fall and was attending full days throughout the week. I truly believed she was ready to start this new chapter as she was very much on track with her development. However, it wasn’t long into her school year when the majority of her daily reports coming home were that of poor behavior, and mishaps with the other children.
I had gone off to a conference and left her and her brother with my husband for a few days. I had called one morning to check in, as I did every morning, when I was informed of surprising behavior that she had not engaged in before. My concern for her was so great, that I immediately called our local mental health center requesting immediate assessment. However, my wait for her to be seen was approx. 4 months away. Given the situation, I was by no means ready to wait 4 months to see a psychiatrist. No way! At this point, not knowing where to turn or what to do, I started researching alternatives healing methods and as a last resort, I sought out a local nutritional consultant.
From this point going forward, I consistently got positive comments about behavioral changes people were seeing. Close friends and family could not believe the difference. One of my daughters classmates had even asked the teacher what had happened to her. She said, “Mme. she is a nice girl now, what happened to her?” This little one was 4 years old; and for a four year old to notice changes in another child of her own age, I was sold on my newly found holistic approach! It is pretty amazing that the types of food we put in our bodies are very much responsible for how we function and how we feel each day. Our food can equally heal and nurture as it can cause illness and disease.
While continuing with our nutritional consultant, I sought out further help from one of our Homeopaths in the area. Both approaches were phenomenal and complimented one another. This was our treatment regimen that we stayed with for the next few years. In the meantime, I began studying and researching natural healing becoming so intrigued, I was having trouble putting down my books! My past time became reading, which I must add, I had ALWAYS hated to do! But this; I loved it! It became my passion. My little teeny tiny girl changed my perception, provided me insight and proved to me that we CAN heal our bodies with guidance from the right professionals. It is my hope that I may have the opportunity to help you, and/or your family, with your healing journey one day!!
Before I go, it is important that I shout out with words of thankfulness to my 2 beautiful children, specifically my first born, for opening my eyes to a whole other level of thinking, and a whole other type of healing. Our children teach us so many things everyday. My advise those of you with children, is to be still and listen, let them take your hand. You will be shown things about you, that you never would have imagined. These little people are such beautiful little souls with so much to offer!!
Much love,
Helen xo
