Pineapple – Nature’s Candy

August 17, 2017

Summer is a great time to enjoy all the fresh and sweet fruits of the season, and the summertime goodness of pineapples! This fruit is made of tiny berries joined together around the center core. Each scale is actually a tiny berry. The pineapple contains a great amount of Vitamin C (half of the daily recommended), as well as Thiamine and Manganese. Pineapples also have the super enzyme, Bromelain.

Bromelain helps digestion by breaking down protein, it also reduces the risk for blood clots, reduces inflammation and fights cancer.

There are so many wonderful benefits to consuming this amazing fruit!

Pineapple – Nature’s Candy

Arthritis

Bromelain is responsible for reducing inflammation overall, and in particular inflammation of the joints and muscle pain.

Cancer Prevention

Increasing your pineapple intake can help reduce tumor growth due to its high amount of antioxidants, in particular, manganese.

Cough/Cold

High amounts of vitamin C and Bromelain help decrease mucous when you have a cough or cold. So try having a few pieces of pineapple next time you have a cough.

Prevents IBS and other Digestive Issues

This fruit is high in both soluble and insoluble fibre which can help with diarrhea or constipation. Perfect for anyone dealing with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome).

Eye Health

With high amounts of vitamin C, this fruit helps decrease your risk of macular degeneration (a common eye disease associated with age).

Oral Health

Pineapples are high in antioxidants and can help prevent oral cancer. They can also really strengthen and protect your gums.

Pineapples are great on their own, however I like to add them to my daily green smoothie made with spinach, coconut water and ginger. You can also make a pineapple salsa to top off any fish or poultry dish. Whatever way you like to enjoy ‘nature’s candy,’ you’ll do so now knowing all the amazing benefits it has to offer. Enjoy!
