Sulfur is a mineral that is necessary for so many key functions in the body and is one of the most critical elements in our body’s detoxification process. However, sulfur is also a mineral that most people are lacking in their diets.
Sulfur is known as the beauty mineral. It gets this name because it helps the skin, hair and nails to stay healthy and youthful as it supports the making of collagen. Collagen is the main supportive protein of cartilage, bone, connective tissue and tendons. Sulfur can also help to improve flexibility and mobility by promoting joint health. This makes it great for exercise recovery and overall joint health and protection. Sulfur also helps cells to utilize oxygen which helps with brain function and cell activity.
Sounds like sulfur is something everyone would want to get lots of with all of the benefits it offers, however, now more than ever, our diets are lacking in this key mineral. Chemical fertilizers and growing crops in depleted soils has stripped our food of the beauty mineral. Foods such as garlic, onions, kale, broccoli and lettuce are excellent sources of sulfur, however, if they are smothered in fertilizer and planted and grown in soil void of nutrients and minerals they will never acquire the sulfur our bodies need.
To add to the concern of not getting enough sulfur in our diets, our bodies cannot make sulfur so we MUST get it from food. It is also water soluble, which means if we don’t keep consuming it, it goes away. This is why I am a huge believer in supplementing with sulfur daily.
I take a heaping teaspoon in warm water each morning to ensure I am not deficient in this key mineral. My brand of choice is Genesis Pure’s Organic Sulfur. http://www.genesispure.com/products/display/2073/117/organic-sulfur
Ever since I began supplementing with sulfur my hair and nails grow faster and stronger, my joints aren’t as stiff and I find my recovery after workouts to be much better.
